AdSEARCH by icddr,b organised the Launching Ceremony of the Pocket Coloscopy held at Mymensingh

On 25 July 2023, the launching Ceremony of the Pocket Colposcope Screening of Cervical Cancer: Implementation Research took place at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Dr Fatema Khatun, Principal Investigator of the study and Associate Scientist of icddr,b, commenced with the project introduction. She elaborated on the pocket colposcope and outlined the strategy for cervical cancer screening and management. Following the presentation, there was an engaging question-and-answer session where attendees had the opportunity to learn about the study.


The ceremony was graced by the presence of Brig Gen Md. Golam Ferdous, Director of MMCH. He highlighted the hospital's commitment to innovative healthcare solutions. Professor Dr Abdul Kader, the Principal of MMC emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling critical health issues. Professor Dr Tayeeba Tanjin Mirza, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MMCH added her insights into the clinical implications of the project.


Dr Quamrun Nahar, Head of Research of MCHD, icddr,b thanked everyone and highlighted the importance of collaboration.


Cervical cancer remains a major health concern globally, particularly in low-resource settings. With the introduction of the pocket colposcope and the planned implementation research, it is expected that more women will have access to early detection and timely interventions. It holds the transformative potential for reshaping cervical cancer screening and management strategies.
