Dissemination Seminar on Cervical cancer was held

On March 4 March 2024, AdSEARCH by icddr,b organised a dissemination seminar on 'Innovations to Improve Cervical cancer Screening: A Systematic Review.' The study investigated innovations in screening for the prevention and early diagnosis of cervical cancer and their effectiveness.


Dr Fatema Khatun, the study's Principal Investigator, and Farina Naz shared the study findings during the seminar. The study revealed that by 2030, 21.3% increase in global cases and a 26.7% rise in deaths over a mere 12-year span from 2018, attributable to cervical cancer (WHO, 2019). Cervical cancer stands as the fourth most prevalent cancer among women worldwide and second in Bangladesh.


The programme commenced with a welcoming address from Dr Quamrun Nahar. The study findings session was followed by a Question & Answer session. Remarks were expressed by Farzana Sultana, Dr Momena Khatun, Dr Ashrafunnessa, Dr A.N.M Mostofa Kamal, and Dr Md. Azizul Alim. The speakers stated that the study will help identify future practices and strategies for improving cervical cancer screening. Programme managers from DGHS, DGFP, UN representatives, INGO and NGO bodies, academics, and experts in this arena were present at the seminar and provided feedback.
