GAC Visit Study Sites for Cervical Cancer Screening Project in Mymensingh and Kishoreganj
Representatives from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the AdSEARCH by icddr,b project team conducted a study site visit from 24 to 26 September 2024 to review the implementation of the Pocket Colposcopy for Cervical Cancer Screening research in Mymensingh and Kishoreganj districts.
The team visited several key healthcare facilities, including Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex, Kishoreganj District Hospital and Phulpur Upazila Health Complex. They explored the VIA examination room, colposcopy unit, and pathology department, gaining insight into how the hospital integrates advanced screening technologies into its services.
During the visit, the team engaged in discussions with government health officials, the Hospital Superintendent, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers (UNFPO), and gynaecologists. These conversations focused on the successes and challenges faced in implementing the cervical cancer screening programme in rural settings.
Farzana Sultana, Development Advisor, High Commission of Canada to Bangladesh; Dr Momena Khatun, Health Technical Specialist FSSP of GAC ; Dr Quamrun Nahar, Deputy Project Director; AdSEARCH by icddr,b, and Dr Fatema Khatun, Principal Investigator and Associate Scientist, icddr,b were present at the visit along with the other.
