Study Overview

The last 30 years have seen significant progress in women’s health globally. However, huge barriers affecting women’s access to gynaecological services remain, resulting in a large burden of unrecognized illness affecting women and girls around the world. The Essential Gynaecological Services (EGS) programme will improve women's access to high-quality, patient-centred care for their gynaecological health needs. This approach involves upskilling non-specialist healthcare providers to identify, treat, and refer women at the earliest opportunity and reduce the devastating burden of long-term gynaecological disease upon women and girls. It will also structure the existing gynaecological data recording systems in the facilities. The objective of the project is to assess the feasibility of the EGS implementation package for improving women’s gynaecological health and quality of life in Bangladesh. To do so, during the project period, an implementation package is being developed with the involvement of the stakeholders. The package is being implemented in two district hospitals and two upazila health complexes of the selected two districts (Kushtia and Dinajpur) of Bangladesh. We are assessing the feasibility of the project. The Royale College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is one of our implementing partners who are providing technical and implementation support.
