SRHR of adolescents have emerged in recent years as an important goal for public health research all over the world, and Bangladesh is no exception. Bangladesh’s National Strategy for Adolescent Health takes into consideration the need for context-specific and age-appropriate SRHR resources for adolescents, and considers diverse populations of vulnerable adolescents as well. We identified orphan adolescent girls as one such vulnerable population of adolescents, who are multiply marginalised by their gender and lack of family support.
In this project, we aim to understand the SRH context, needs, barriers, and enablers of orphaned female adolescents aged 9-19, and design and develop age-appropriate and context-specific resources and intervention HopeBox that is visually-stimulating, engaging and interactive. We are going to ensure SRH of orphan adolescent girls by providing booklets, through conducting interactive workshops and celebrity endorsement through HopeBox.
