Although marriage is often seen as the start of a new life, for thousands of women in Bangladesh that life begins with control, pressure, and a lack of decision-making power. A longitudinal study by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) found that within just six months of marriage, four out of five women experience controlling behavior from their husbands.
