The workshop titled “Burden of Preterm Birth in Bangladesh: Actions Taken and Innovations” was jointly organized by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Scientist Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman of icddr,b, in his presentation titled “Burden of Preterm Birth in Bangladesh: Actions Taken and Innovations,” cited data published in The Lancet. He stated that 16.2 percent of total births in Bangladesh are preterm. In comparison, the rate is 13 percent in India and 14.4 percent in Pakistan.
