In this regard, the initiative taken by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has also been limited in scope. Following the High Court’s ruling, the Ministry issued a circular and disseminated it to the forensic medicine departments of all medical colleges and hospitals. However, no substantial monitoring or follow-up measures were undertaken thereafter. As a result, the degrading and unscientific “two-finger test” continues to be practiced in different parts of the country.
These concerns were raised by speakers at a discussion meeting titled “Review of the Implementation of the Court’s Prohibition on the Two-Finger Test,” organized by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad at its central office on Saturday (1 February).
